SBA opens Galveston office on July 17 to assist businesses, homeowners, renter and private nonprofit organizations
On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, community leaders from Vision Galveston, City of Galveston, the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Galveston Economic Development Partnership could be seen huddled outside of Marmo Plaza at 2121 Market Street.
As business owners, homeowners, nonprofit leaders, and members of the community arrived at 9 am for a press conference, we were greeted by Vision Galveston staffers, offered warm coffee, and invited to sign a beautiful mural that is a living love letter to our island.
The purpose of this gathering was to celebrate the opening of a new, public office for the Small Business Administration on the island. The SBA is the federal access point for low-interest recovery loans in the wake of a disaster. Having an office with a team available to answer questions will help Galveston recover from Hurricane Beryl much more quickly.
When asked why Vision Galveston was eager to help bring the SBA to Galveston, VG CEO Christine Bryant explained, “This is recommendation number 72. To open the local public services on the island and in the midst of a disaster to have an SBA staffed business recovery center here for our residents and businesses is just doing what Galvestonians said they wanted.”
